چکیده

Ancient landslides of unknown origin can be found in large numbers mountainous regions; some represent valid markers (pre-)historic natural regimes referring to either long-term evolution or short-term peak events climatic and seismotectonic nature. An example is represented by the Balta rockslide Romanian Carpathian Mountains. Its location seismically active Vrancea-Buzau region, as well its morphological features, deep-seated rupture surface debris volume, raise question failure history with regard a possible co-seismic triggering. A 3D volume based reconstruction slope morphology together field measurements elasto-plastic in-situ rock properties allow estimate pre-failure conditions slope, special regards geological, i.e. flysch bedrock poor fair quality, structural settings, anti-dip bedding crossed main joint family. The reconstructed behaviour was tested under static dynamic forces distinct element code 3DEC, subsequently used simulate scenario 120 s long real earthquake record that leads realistic post-failure Balta. For latter, we observe principally joint-controlled combined internal fracturing undamaged mass. After 230 simulated time, landslide reaches valley bottom maximum displacements 1350 m marked lateral expansion broader extent than source zone width, observed field. Extension this work other pre-historic failures valleys yield valuable new information for future seismic hazard estimations region.

buckling of viscoelastic composite plates using the finite strip method

Distinct element modelling of the mechanical behaviour of intact rocks using voronoi tessellation model

This paper aims to study the mechanical behaviour and failure mechanism of intact rocks under different loading conditions using the grain based model implemented in the universal distinct element code (UDEC). The grain based numerical model is a powerful tool to investigate complicated micro-structural mechanical behaviour of rocks. In the UDEC grain based model, the intact material is simulat...

Numerical assessment of influence of confining stress on Kaiser effect using distinct element method

Nowadays acoustic emission (AE) testing based on the Kaiser Effect (KE) is increasingly used to estimate the in-situ stress in laboratories. In this work, this effect is assessed on cylindrical specimens in numerical simulations of the cyclic loadings including loading, unloading, and re-loading cycles using a 3D code called the particle flow code (PFC) based upon the distinct element method. T...

Seismic Wave-Field Propagation Modelling using the Euler Method

Wave-field extrapolation based on solving the wave equation is an important step in seismic modeling and needs a high level of accuracy. It has been implemented through a various numerical methods such as finite difference method as the most popular and conventional one. Moreover, the main drawbacks of the finite difference method are the low level of accuracy and the numerical dispersion for l...

3d numerical slope stability analysis of west wall of sarcheshmeh mine utilizing a distinct element method

in the past, rock slope stability analysis were performed either graphically or using a hand-held calculator, but nowadays there are variety of slope stability analysis which can be used according to the field condition and potential failure mode. in 2-d analysis, effect of convex and concave walls are neglected, however concave slopes are believed to be more stable than straight walls due to t...
